How to troubleshoot a Plugin that is crashing in Final Cut Pro

Narrow down the cause of the crash

It can be incredibly frustrating to encounter crashing when working with a plugin in Final Cut Pro. There's a few different things you should check first to make sure that the issue is not coming from the product itself. Sometimes, crashing can be caused by system incompatibility, a problem with your FCP, or a problem with your project. Make 

  1. Make sure that your System specifications are compatible with the plugin.
  2. Clear your FCPX Preferences.
  3. Make sure that you have completely uninstalled the plugin and reinstalled it from a fresh download.
  4. Test with a brand new project that is housed on your internal drive to make sure that the crashing isn't caused by a corruption of the project, another plugin, or by an external drive issue.
  5. Contact Customer Support

Contacting Customer Support 

When you contact customer support, you will need to provide the following information so that we can investigate the matter further with our development team to identify the issue.

  1. The name of the plugin you are using
  2. A description of the steps you took that caused the crash
  3. Your MAC OS and FCP version
  4. A copy of the Crash Report File from your Mac

How to locate a crash report

Step 1: To locate a crash report open the "Console" application. Press Command+Space to open spotlight search and type in "Console." Then open the Console application.

Step 2: Once Console is open look at the left hand column and find Crash Reports.

Step 3: Locate the crash report by searching the date and right click on the file and “Reveal in Finder.”

Step 4: Send this file to Support.
