PFS Installer – Plugins Not Installing
If your plugins are not installing—or the Install button briefly flashes, completes, and then resets—this is usually caused by incorrect folder structure or permissions on your Mac.
As long as everything is set up correctly, installation should complete without issue.
This guide walks you through the two most common problem areas.
Before You Begin
Make sure you are:
- Logged into an Administrator account
- Able to enter the admin password if prompted
Issue 1: Applications Folder Structure & Permissions
The PFS Installer relies on a specific folder structure inside your Applications folder.
If this structure is missing or permissions are incorrect, plugins may fail to install.
What to check:
You should have the following folder path:
Macintosh HD → Applications → Pixel Film Studios
Inside that folder:
- Log
- PFS-Download
- Plugins
If this structure is missing or incorrect, or permissions are not set to Read & Write, installation may fail.

Issue 2: Motion Templates Folder Structure & Permissions
Final Cut Pro requires a properly configured Motion Templates folder to install plugins.
If this folder is missing, incorrectly named, or has improper permissions, plugins will not install.
Step 1: Locate the Motion Templates folder
Open Finder and navigate to:
Macintosh HD → Users → [Your Username] → Movies
Look for a folder named:
Motion Templates
Step 2: Verify required subfolders

Inside the Motion Templates folder, you should see:
- Titles
- Generators
- Effects
- Transitions
Step 3: Create missing folders (if needed)
If the Motion Templates folder or its subfolders are missing:
- Create a new folder named:
Motion Templates.localized
(Spelling and capitalization must match exactly) - Inside that folder, create the following folders:
- Titles.localized
- Generators.localized
- Effects.localized
- Transitions.localized
Note: The “.localized” extension may appear hidden—this is normal.
Step 4: Check permissions

Make sure all folders:
- Are accessible by your user account
- Have Read & Write permissions enabled
Final Steps
Once both folder structures are correct:
- Restart the PFS Installer
- Log in if needed
- Go to the My Downloads tab
- Try installing your plugin again
Still not working?
If installation continues to fail:
- Double-check folder names for exact spelling
- Confirm permissions are applied to all enclosed folders
- Restart your Mac and try again
If the issue persists, please contact our support team for further assistance.
With the correct folder structure and permissions in place, the PFS Installer should install your plugins without issue.
