What is Composite Footage?
Composite footage refers to .mov video files that include an alpha channel, allowing them to be used as overlays on top of your footage in your timeline.
These files are commonly included with certain Pixel Film Studios products (such as glitch, grunge, fire, or particle effects) and are designed to enhance your edits visually.
How Composite Footage Works
Unlike standard plugins, composite footage is not installed directly into Final Cut Pro’s Titles, Effects, Generators, or Transitions libraries.
Instead:
- Composite files are video assets (.mov files)
- They are imported into Final Cut Pro like any other media file
- They are placed above your footage in the timeline to create overlay effects
Because they include transparency (alpha channel), only the visible elements (such as light leaks, particles, or textures) appear over your video.
Important Note
Composite footage does not appear inside Final Cut Pro’s plugin browser.
You must import and use it manually within your project.
