Why is the PFS Installer not working properly?
If the PFS Installer is not launching, installing plugins, or behaving as expected, there are a few common causes to check:
1. You may be using an outdated version of the PFS Installer
Older versions of the installer may no longer be supported and can cause performance issues or failures.
- Visit the official installer page to download the latest version:
https://pixelfilmstudios.com/installer/ - Install the updated version and relaunch the app
2. The Pixel Film Studios folder is missing or has incorrect permissions
The PFS Installer requires a Pixel Film Studios folder inside your Applications directory with proper permissions.
- If the folder is missing or restricted, the installer may not function correctly
- Follow the steps in this guide to verify and fix permissions:
https://pixelfilmstudios.kb.help/pfs-installer-permissions/
3. Motion Templates folders are missing, not localized, or lack permissions
Final Cut Pro relies on specific folders in your Movies directory for plugins to install correctly.
Make sure the following folder structure exists:
- Movies → Motion Templates → Effects
- Movies → Motion Templates → Generators
- Movies → Motion Templates → Titles
- Movies → Motion Templates → Transitions
Common issues include:
- The Motion Templates folder has not been created yet
- Folder names are not properly localized
- Folder permissions are incorrect
